People of all ages are creative beings. When we are dealing with challenging feelings, words may not be the easiest way to express our complex emotions. Art Therapy allows for both non verbal and verbal expression. It is especially appropriate for children, adolescents or adults who have difficulty talking about their feelings, or those who have experienced trauma, grief and loss, life changes, depression, anxiety, learning challenges, family problems, attachment issues, body image issues or illnesses.
It is also helpful for those who tend to intellectualize as art can help bypass the part of us that may censor what we are willing to talk about. It helps children and adults learn to self regulate challenging emotions like anxiety, sadness or anger.
Art therapy taps into the creative and imaginative part in each person to bring inner guidance and self healing to a conscious level. The whole brain is activated in art making, creating new neurological pathways for healing and wellness.
Art therapy is engaging and creative. In the safe, non-judgmental environment created by the art therapist, children and adults can explore difficult feelings and challenges and gain new perspective.
